Sweatshop Boogie

Sweatshop Boogie

Sweatshop Boogie is an evening length musical installation by Willard Morgan, reflecting on the different eras of clothing as seen through the eyes of an incurable dandy. The protagonist takes us on a personal and fantasy journey, exploring the nature of style as a shield, a weapon, an art form and a world addiction. His imagination comes alive as he travels through time, from the jester to the restoration courtier to the victorian dandy - evoking the history and geo-politics of fashion, transcending conflict through comedy.

Silks and Satins Adorn my Bones

Silks and Satins Adorn my Bones

Silks and Satins Adorn my Bones is marked by deceived expectations and the lack of event; it explores the ritual pushed to the extreme of ridicule, a hymn to the realm of appearance and superficiality. The few events occurring are very theatrical and ceremonious: melodramatic games of seduction followed by a violent yet emotionless scene of whipping, and finally a fight over a piece of clothing. None of these social games have any ending or specific outcome thus emphasizing their triviality.

Silks and Satins Adorn my Bones is part of a larger project, Sweatshop Boogie, a series of videos and performances about fashion through the ages, as a luxury, a weapon, a shield and finally, an opiate of the people in the form of addictive cheap 'threads' as seen through the eyes of various characters.
