EVERY MOTHERS SON

Sophia Dawson has been creating murals for the past ten years, to connect more directly with her surroundings, with the people who inspire her and those she wants to provoke. Her large-scale paintings explore the history of African Americans and engage with their current issues. The Brooklyn-based artist offers a new perspective on their long-time struggle; her colorful language gives it a singular power.

“My art is a tool to bring people from different ethnicities, social statuses, beliefs and backgrounds together.”

JOIN US for an evening of discussion with the artist followed by an Open-Mic session!

The women depicted in the painting will be our guests, as well as Tami Gold, director of the documentary Every Mother’s Son.
