Havana Concourse: Cuban Classics Reimagined

THE “HAVANA CONCOURSE” CONCERT SERIES COMES TO NEW YORK’S IDEAL GLASS FOR A DISTINCTIVE AFRO-CUBAN MUSIC EXPERIENCE

NEW YORK - March 16, 2018 - Havana Concourse Music Series returns on April 7th, 2018 to Ideal Glass Studio (22 E 2nd St.) for the second installment of its new music series dedicated to providing a performance crossroads for live urban alternative Cuban music.

This installment of Havana Concourse’s Cuban Classics: Reimagined, is a musical journey of Mambo, Cha Cha Cha and CuBop will present the New York - based Cuban singer Gerardo Contino, one of the most popular Cuban singers on the contemporary latin music scene and a modern dance performance by Gabriela Burdsall, lead dancer of Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, under Dayramir’s musical direction.

Launched in January of 2016, Havana Concourse has captured the attention of New Yorkers, including those who are familiar with Cuban culture, and some who are looking for a new experience within the artistic dynamism that the city offers. The concert series’ concept is based on the cultural interchange between the U.S. and Cuba, only miles apart, which find common ground in music and art. Created by Dayramir Gonzalez, the award-winning Cuban pianist and composer, and hosted by performer and impresario, Willard Morgan, this series is a platform introducing Cuba’s strongest and most accessible musical genres from Afro-Cuban jazz to Timba, to Son to Cubaton, which have been spearheaded by such notable artists as Buena Vista Social Club, Gente de Zona, and Bebo Valdes. In its intercultural aspect, the series’ events present the music of artists from around the world filtered through the Cuban musical lens.

“My vision has always come from the very simple notion that music is something to be celebrated, and that there are many ways to celebrate it,” says Gonzalez. “You can sit down and listen intensely, or you can stand up, letting the music permeate your body through movement. Any way is fine, as long as you are interacting with it.”

This concert series has something for everyone; it has live music that crosses borders, an open floor, and an upbeat social atmosphere, marked by its signature mode of Espectaculo a lo Cubano.
