SILKS AND SATINS

2014

A video work inspired by the vibrant and lavish dress practices established by Charles II during the Restoration period in 17th century England. A group of elaborately dressed courtesans sit in an ornate parlor basking in the fabrics and makeup that adorn their bodies, elegantly powdering themselves in various states of undress. This is one of four parts in the Sweatshop Boogie series of performances and videos satirizing historical and contemporary dress practices and the global fashion industry.
